If you want to escape the crowds on the Tourmalet and Aubisque, the Hourquette d'Ancizan is the climb for you. This quiet, scenic pass rises to 1,564 metres and offers a peaceful, pastoral cycling experience.
A Different Kind of Climb
The road winds through rolling green pastures with stone walls and grazing cattle. There are no dramatic cliffs or Tour de France crowds — just you, your bike, and the mountains. The climb from Ancizan is 9.7 km at 6.5%, with a gentle start that steepens near the top.
The Perfect Loop
The Hourquette d'Ancizan connects beautifully with the Col d'Aspin. Start in Ancizan, climb the Hourquette, descend to Saint-Lary-Soulan, then climb the Aspin from the east and return. It's a 50 km loop with two climbs and stunning scenery throughout.
