The Hautacam is a climb that breaks riders. Rising to 1,520 metres, it has decided many Tour de France stages with its savage, irregular gradient and devastating final 4 km. This is not a climb for the faint-hearted.

The Gradient

The climb from Argelès-Gazost is 13.6 km at 7.8% average, but the gradient is highly irregular. The first few kilometres are gentle, lulling you into a false sense of security. Then the road ramps up, with sections exceeding 10%. The final 4 km average over 9% and include ramps of 13-14%.

Tour de France Legend

The Hautacam has been the scene of some of the most dramatic moments in Tour de France history. It's a summit finish that rewards pure climbing ability and punishes anyone who goes too early. If you want to experience what the pros feel, this is the climb to ride.
