While the paved cols get all the attention, the Pyrenees offer incredible gravel cycling for those willing to venture off the tarmac. From fire roads to ancient shepherd tracks, the gravel possibilities are endless.
Why Gravel?
Gravel riding lets you escape the traffic and explore parts of the Pyrenees that road cyclists never see. The fire roads through the forests are quiet, scenic, and surprisingly rideable. You'll discover hidden valleys, ancient villages, and landscapes that take your breath away.
Recommended Routes
The area around the Col du Tourmalet has excellent gravel options. The fire roads through the Neouvielle Nature Reserve offer stunning high-altitude riding. The gravel roads connecting the Hourquette d'Ancizan to the Col d'Aspin provide a beautiful off-road alternative. And the tracks around Luz-Saint-Sauveur lead to hidden waterfalls and mountain lakes.
