What goes up must come down — and in the Pyrenees, the descents are as challenging as the climbs. Long, steep, and technical, mountain descents require skill, focus, and respect. Here's how to descend safely.

Body Position

Keep your weight balanced and your hands on the drops for maximum control. Look ahead, not at your front wheel. Brake before the corner, not during it. Use both brakes smoothly — front brake for slowing, rear brake for stability.

Reading the Road

Mountain roads can have gravel, potholes, and livestock. Scan the road ahead and adjust your line accordingly. Be especially careful on shaded sections where moisture can make the road slippery. When in doubt, slow down.

Respect the Mountain

Descending is not a race. It's better to lose a few seconds than to risk a crash. Let faster riders pass, and never take risks you're not comfortable with. The mountain will always be there for another day.
